Sir John Savile’s Household are back at Hoghton Tower for two days of encampment, living history, demonstrations, drills and more! Great fun for all the family. The attendance of little knights in armour is encouraged!

Activities throughout the day:

The Encampment Opens at 10.30am

Living history displays around the campsite will be open all day.
11am First display – First Combat Display / Weapons talk/Archery / Guns
12 noon Lunch – Walk around the encampment

1pm Mummers Style Play
3pm Second Combat Display / Weapons Talk Bill Drill / Fight

5pm Site closes

Admission fee:

Adult £5.00 pp

Children £3.00pp

Under 5s free

Site Entry ticket includes gardens.

Tearoom open 11am – 4pm (last entry 3.30pm)

Gardens open 10.30am – 4.30pm (last entry 4pm)

Family Friendly House Tours available £9pp, pre book online with your site admission.

Afternoon Tea bookings available, pre book online with your site admission here.

Important Information:

Please be aware that there are scheduled occurrences of cannon fire at this event.

Dogs are not permitted anywhere on site on the 7th & 8th August 2021, this is due to loud noises omitted by the cannon fire and for the welfare of the animal and the safety of those on site.

Join one of our terrific tours and travel through time Be entranced by the stories of a house and a family. The tours span over nearly 1000 years of history witnessed on this one, hill top site. From William the Conqueror through to modern times the Tower has witnessed the lives of the de Hoghton family and welcomed many famous visitors. It is said that some of these people still make their spectral presence felt on occasions around the house. Let our knowledgeable and friendly guides lead you through history at Hoghton Tower.

The tour lasts one hour and is guided.

By booking a ticket for one of our tours you are helping to raise funds for the Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust (Registered Charity: 508357).

Please be aware that all visitors must hold a valid site admission ticket for the War of the Roses event.

The starting point for the tour which is accessed either via two flights of stone steps without a handrail or, alternatively, a single flight of narrower stones steps with a handrail. The tour itself involves a number of flights of stairs and different, sometimes, uneven floor surfaces. For more information, please refer to the Facilities and Access page on our website.

Afternoon Tea at Hoghton Tower

Enjoy a traditional afternoon tea at the majestic 16th century Hoghton Tower.

Our friendly team will serve a delicious selection of sweet and savoury delights including savouries and sandwiches, a homemade scone served with clotted cream and jam and other sweet treats.  All this paired with freshly brewed tea or coffee.

Afternoon Teas must be prebooked and all visitors on Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th August must hold a valid site admission ticket for the War of the Roses event. 

Please advise us of any dietary requirements at the time of booking. We take all allergies, intolerances and other dietary requirements very seriously and our staff take the utmost care in preparing your food, however, our kitchen does handle allergens and we therefore cannot guarantee that there is no cross contamination. 

Our tearoom is situated in the Inner Courtyard which is accessed via two flights of stone steps without a handrail or altenatively, a single flight of narrower stone steps with a handrail.
