Hoghton Tower Self-Guided House Visit

Visit the house and discover this historic building at your leisure. Explore the fascinating past of this iconic building: almost 1000 years of history witnessed on this one, hilltop site. From William the Conqueror through to modern times the Tower has witnessed the lives of the de Hoghton family and welcomed many famous visitors. You have the option to download the ‘Live Beacon’ app on to your own mobile device to read as you explore. Alternatively, browse the notes that you will find in each room or chat with our friendly volunteers around the house who will be happy to share some of the stories from history with you.

Available to pre-book online now. On the day tickets will be strictly limited and subject to availability.

Proceeds from the public show admission fee will be in aid of both Derian House Children's Hospice (Registered Charity Number: 1005165) and Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust (Registered Charity Number: 508357). Proceeds from the house visits are for the benefit of the Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust. All other proceeds from Supercar Showtime activity including those from supercar entries and live auctions are raised entirely in aid of Derian House Children's Hospice.

Access

This event is primarily held on the grassed Tilting Greens at the front of Hoghton Tower with catering available in the area around the Great Barn and in the Hoghton Tower Tearoom.

Car parking is located in the fields adjacent to the main driveway and access to the show is on foot through the car parking fields. The car parking fields and the Tilting Greens themselves are steeply sloped and uneven in places. In inclement weather, the fields may be muddy, please dress appropriately and wear suitable footwear.

There will be a limited number of Blue Badge spaces available. Please make sure you have your Blue Badge available on arrival and that you make our parking stewards aware of this on entry.

The catering area around the Great Barn is sloped and loose terrain.

Access for the house visit / Hoghton Tower Tearoom is either via two flights of stone steps without a handrail or, alternatively, a single flight of narrower stones steps with a handrail. The tour itself involves a number of flights of stairs and different, sometimes, uneven floor surfaces. Please be aware that unfortunately, prams / pushchairs are not permitted on the house tour. For more information, please refer to the Facilities and Access page on our website.

Visitors with dogs – For this event our general site rules apply; Well behaved Dogs are permitted on leads in the grounds and tilting green areas only, however they are not allowed beyond the main gate to the courtyards, the house or the gardens. Please do bear in mind when deciding if this event is suitable for your dog, that this is an extremely busy day with around 6000 people in attendance and quite noisy, there will be music playing, and the tilting greens themselves are packed with displays of supercars. In the interest of animal welfare, we don’t allow people to leave their dogs in parked cars on the site.
